GET MOVING!

Maybe you're like me and you have been waiting your entire life for things to change. Well, I don't know about you, but I finally got tired of waiting because I wasn’t getting anywhere, and I decided to get moving because life is short. The fear of never knowing if I could, began to outweigh the fear of failing. I decided it was worth the risk to take a few baby steps and see what would happen. A little over two years ago I began taking those small steps and that's when everything began to change.

on

You see, I began to realize that I had been believing a lie. I had believed that if I waited long enough, one-day things would change. I sat around for many years, waiting expectantly for a magic wand to appear and with a Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, just like Cinderella, my ashes would be changed instantly into a world where my dreams would come true. I was waiting for the fairy tale. I was waiting for something that was never going to come.

Life is like running a marathon. It requires strength and endurance, both physically and mentally. I fully understood that if I wanted to run a marathon, I would need to do some serious training. I also understood that you couldn't just go from the couch to intense workouts. That's why there are training programs like Couch to 10K. It starts slowly and guides you to build up strength and endurance over time by following a strategically planned daily regimen. I also understood that if you don't keep training regularly you will end up back on the couch again in no time at all. Have you ever noticed how much effort it takes to get into shape but how quickly it fades away with inactivity?

The same is true for our minds. It wasn't until I pulled myself off the couch, stood up, and began taking steps that I recognized my deeply rooted beliefs had been holding me hostage like Cinderella’s wicked stepmother.

My aha moment came when I realized that my mind required the same kind of persistence and practice that my body would demand in preparation for a marathon. If I wanted to become strong and produce the kind of results that I always hoped for and dreamed of, then I needed to do some hard-core Pilates for my mind. I discovered that if I wanted to be healthy, strong, and capable of running the marathon of life, my mind required daily challenges, exercise, and training just like my body.

Jess Ekstrom - Chasing the Bright Side

My mental training began by recognizing some lies I was believing…

I believed I wasn’t smart enough, capable enough, or good enough to create a brand, manage it, and build it into something that adds value to people's lives. I also believed I wasn’t smart enough, capable enough, or good enough to be an inspirational speaker or writer. I mean, who am I to do something like that?

Maybe I could do it if only I had a better education and formal training. Maybe I could do it if only I had more money. Maybe I could do it if only I were like her. Maybe I could do it if only … if only… if only…

These lies, accompanied by the delusion that my dreams would magically come true someday, with no real effort on my part, kept me immobilized. The key was to stand up and begin taking steps. Training your mind to focus on where you want to go instead of why you think you can’t get there must take place every single day. You must call out the lies and choose to replace them with the truth as soon as they begin to speak to you. There must be an intentional and persistent mental shift from:

I could do it if only…

TO

I can do it because

I can do it because I dream about it. I can do it because I know where I want to go. I can do it because I am taking small steps every day to get there. I can do it because I will not stop until I get there.

The magic happens when you stand up and take a step, even just one. Just keep taking steps toward your dreams every single day and see what happens! You can do more than you think, but you'll never know how far you can go until you GET MOVING!

May you get moving today my friend, whether you start by crawling or taking even the tiniest baby steps. Just taking the first step is the most important thing! You can do it, my friend! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other every single day and see where it leads you!

You are capable and you can do more than you think!

Blessings!
